source The Guardian article The best way to prepare a great grilled cheese is with lots of marinades, and the marinade for this grilled cheese at our local restaurant is as delicious as the food itself.
You can use the marinating agent as a garnish or just add a sprinkle of salt to the cheese.
Our favourite is the Garlic Bread Pudding.
This marinated bread pudding has an impressive savoury kick to it, and it’s an excellent way to get a nice flavour from the marination.
It’s also quite filling, which makes it perfect for the grilled cheese lovers in your life.
1kg (2.4lb) of fresh or frozen bread, cut into 1cm cubes 2 tsp (1/2 tsp) salt 1/2 tbsp (0.3g) garlic powder 1 tbsp (1g) paprika, ground 2 tbsp (4g) fresh basil, chopped 1 large banana, peeled and thinly sliced 1 tbsp freshly grated cheddar cheese (or more to taste) 1/4 tsp (0,5g) nutmeg, ground (optional) Instructions Preheat oven to 200C (356F).
Melt the garlic, salt and paprika together in a large saucepan over a medium heat.
Add the water and cook for 20 minutes until the garlic and salt have dissolved.
Remove from the heat and stir in the garlic mixture.
Pour into a large mixing bowl.
Mix in the basil and banana slices.
Spoon over the bread pudding.
Repeat with the remaining ingredients, then pour over the marinated mixture and top with the cheese, if using.
Place on a baking tray and bake for 10 minutes.
Let cool for 10-15 minutes, then remove from the oven and serve.
Recipe Notes The recipe also works with fresh or dried basil, so if you’re having trouble finding fresh basil in the UK, check your local supermarket for dried. 3.5.3226
